I am a huge fan of Shorty Rossi. He is on an animal planet (LINK) .https://www.facebook.com/ShortyRossiFanPage?fref=ts. He is an interesting Character. I loved his autobiography. He is my hero because he goes above and beyond to rescue Pitbulls. They are a misunderstood breed. People see public images of pitbulls fighting or "pitbulls" that have attacked someone. The reason pitbull is in quotes in the last sentence, is because people call any dog that looks like one a pitbull. I was a person that knew nothing about the breed except what I heard on the television. I am not sure I even saw one in person until a few years ago.
Let me say I am a dog lover. I have had dogs all my life. Sometimes I had two dogs. I haven't had that that many dogs because I believe that a dog is a pet for life . All my dogs died when they were elderly. I never got a dog and returned him because he did not fit into my life style.
My dogs have always been like babies to me.Babies that aren't allowed on the couch.
All my life i wanted a beautiful German shepherd. The opportunity came and I was able to get one . Sadly I did not know what I should know about larger breed dogs.So my dog was never socialized . Partly because I took the advise of the breeder who sold me that dog.I was told keep the dog close to home and only around your family so he will bond and be loyal to your family. I couldn't walk him because he was afraid of every thing.He was territorial in our yard but he was friendly to people in our house.He was not always friendly outside to people but it wasn't the breeds fault it was mine.Because I was ignorant. He never bit anyone but if he was in the car and someone walked by he would bark and growl like a lunatic!
Sadly my German Shepard passed away about for years ago. We also had a beagle at the same time he was a fat friendly guy. he was more socialized than my shepherd and he even got to go play at the dog park, we lost the both dogs a bout a month apart.
One day I was thinking I have to get another dog I was missing the two I had lost so much. At this time I was more educated about dogs. I looked up a lot of information about breeds and decided to rescue a dog. Some of my other dogs were rescues but after buying the Shepherd, I realized it was wrong to buy a dog when so many are in shelters. I wanted to make my younger daughter a part of the adoption process because she is not an animal lover. She doesn't hate animals she has allergies and does not enjoy them as much as I do.
I started watching animal planet because I liked Caesar Milan and learned a lot about dogs from him. Most of my dogs were medium and some small dogs all mutts till the shepherd. Well my daughter liked the way pitbulls looked. I was surprised. I honestly thought she want some neat little dog, I wanted a puppy.
I'm a sucker for puppies!
Looking around wanting to pick out a dog isn't easy. This one's too old,mean ,HAIRY (which end is the head?). You feel sorry for them all and and know they stressed and not always going to be the barking looney they are in the kennel.Or maybe they will.
My daughter saw them first 2 cute puppies. Pitbull/mix they tell us. We find out later that they say mixed because people wont adopt them because of their bad reputation.Well we decided on the male because the female was a little wild and he was calmer although he liked waling backwards a lot it didn't take long for me to fall in love with him.My husband wasn't sure when I called him at work and said we got one!! He asked what kind and I said a pitbull .The phone went quiet so I knew that wasn't good. I said it's not the breed its the owner that makes the dog behave right. Needless to say he loves our baby "chico" He is sweet and loves everone. He has been socialized with cats and dogs of all sizes.he has the best temperament of any dog I've owned.
Now back to Shorty Rossi it is really kind of funny how I started watching his show I was flipping through the tv guide and saw the title "Pitboss." I didn't notice it was "Animal Planet" and thought it was a bout barbequing! That was pretty funny. I was watching and was amazed to find out so much about pitbulls and this wonderful man who rescues them. He is one of my heroes! He is very brave and kind, he does have a little bit of a tough guy appeal.So now I have a news feed full of Pitbull rescue groups and on Facebook I have come to love the breed and need to give credit to Shorty's show.I am grateful that I have the best dog ever,and to learn so much from watching his show.
I will never buy a dog from a breeder or a pet shop I will stop as many people as I can from doing that by passing on the word about shelters. And i also try to educate people when I can about Pitbulls. Truly it is not a bad breed it is bad owner. If you want a great dog Adopt. A great dog adopt a pitbull.
