Fiddle sticks! Some old sayings and book title mysteries

Why do they give books titles that do not seem to have any relevance to the story at all. I am talking about novels.More than 50 percent of the books I read give no reference to what the title means and I spend more time trying to figure out the mystery on the cover then the mystery in the book! I like when the book explains the title some where along the way! I really enjoy a lot of these weird title books. One example is "The Door to December" by Dean Koontz. I don't think it is ever explained or referred to in the book at all . I love reading and do quite a bit. My favorite books are mystery and horror . I usually can figure out the mysteries and the who in "who done it?" pretty easily but the I get baffled by the title. I think this is why I never remember titles of books I've read.

Growing up it was the same way with old wise saying some made sense some I never will understand and I guess I never will. I love them ,some times the dumber the better. Like fiddlesticks! I knew it was said when someone was angry usually Oh Fiddlesticks!!!
But what does it mean? I have heard millions of sayings and keep them in my head like a hoarder.I even like some variations I have heard, but sometimes not ! i like the ones you start saying like "sticks and stones..." and whomever you are with can finish it ,no matter what age group. We were always told to use that and "SO ? " when kids made fun of us!They both worked pretty well . Kids are too soft today they call what we used to call joking ,bullying! They need to learn to laugh stuff off. I will say that I am not talking about habitual "joking" but really some people need a little thicker skin . I work on a playground and do not tolerate bullies ,but I do give kids joking ways to answer back the bullies if it is a simple remark that someone makes. I also explain tho bullies "do unto other..." .
I remember one my dad used to say to me somehow got lost in translation when I was a kid because I took things more literally. He used to say "if you hold a grudge and jump into the creek, you will surely drown as it will weigh you down".I wanted to know how you hold a grudge.
I always heard you can catch flies with honey, than vinegar,of course I wanted to know who would be dumb enough to collect flies! my favorite one was one I use a lot (yeah I fling them at my kids!)was Make sure people are happier to see you arrive than leaving! I understood that one. I also liked what my father in law said about company,"Company is like fish after about 3 days they begin to stink!" Gee,I think we were visiting when he told me that one ! Oh well that was another lifetime ago.And Venus is still Venus and will never be Mars!.
Life is to short to play chess, play checkers instead. We get too soon old and too late smart! This one is so true.
