This is his "can I have a cookie" face.If I say "no cookie" he will go into search mode. He looks around the house, and usually comes back in a few minutes and spits out a coin.I do not know where his coin stash is but he gave me 3 nickles yesterday! I think he wants to buy a cookie or trade for one. Cookie is our human work for a variety of dog treats. We try to never give him people food hoping that will make him less of a beggar. He does go to bed(or to "place") if he begs, but but there's a few human snacks hard for him to resist .Bacon is one of them! Most dogs love it. As a dog owner and also a dog sitter I have met so many dogs that like all kinds of "cookies".
Chico also likes to snack on non-food items. His favorite thing is plastic. One of the first commands he learned was "spit it". It's funny wen he is told this because he looks at me and spits out what ever he has in that big mouth of his. Sometime with dramatic flair then looks at me like "how did that get in there?".But most of his favorite things to beg for are meaty treats which he sadly does not get. That is unless it is mixed in with his food and never given to him while we are eating. I like him to have manners.
It wasn't till this past summer however that I found out that my friends English Bulldogs favorite "cookie" is bananas!! I was very surprised when Winnie was at my house for a couple of days and when I had a banana my dog had no interest at all in begging. Winnie actually sat by me whining .First thing I did was open the door for her to go out. She didn't budge. As a joke I offered her a bit of banana ! She gulped it down like a steak! When my friend came back to pick her up,I told her Her silly dog loves bananas! She knew. This so far has to be the most unusual "cookie" treat for a dog I have ever seen.
