Old fashioned not old timey!!l

Oh brother!
Is your family filled with all these antiquated sayings? Dr. Phil uses all my family's old expressions and puts a southern accent on them. Ooops Texas accent! Geez. During my childhood I heard so many things over and over and that I couldn't help but use them on my own kids.
In example" you can catch more flies with honey than bleach" some how you knew what it meant but I still wondered why would you want to catch flies?
Who thought of these things? One that every person knows goes back to biblical days I'm sure- "If you can't say anything nice...-_____" Fill in the blank, even if you do not say it out loud you know you heard it in your head LOL!! I have always been a collector of wise and not so wise sayings.I just enjoy them. I think I forgot as many as I know and I feel like there should be a place to safe keep them. A lot of them have been changed with time but I still use the originals ( as I heard them !). Like "You have to pull your self up by your boot straps.",You can drag a horse to water but you can't make him drink ". I always thought that should be donkey because they are supposed to be stubborn.So many times my kids would ask what does it mean? sometimes I would tell them other times I'd say figure it out!
There is such little communication "ear to ear " these days. Sometimes it's hard to hear the sarcasm in written words. Funny how we are losing so much actual communication ,by not speaking these days . Sad that talking has become old fashioned.Pet peeve of the day- Say " old Fashioned , not "Old timey", even spell check doesn't like that word!!
